The World Gold Standard in Freediving Education

Clinton Laurence

Clinton Laurence is an AIDA International qualified freediving instructor who is also a registered psychologist with a combined background in both psychology and sport sciences. His background includes:

1. First Class Joint Honours in Psychology and Human Movement Studies from the University of Queensland, a Master of Clinical Psychology from the Australian National University, and a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis from the Australian Society of Hypnosis.

2. For over five years he was a lecturer at Griffith University on the Gold Coast within the School of Physiotherapy and Exercise Science where he taught the subjects Exercise and Sport Psychology, Exercise Assessment and Counselling, Sports Coaching, and Health Psychology.

3. Working with elite kayakers at the Australian Institute of Sport Canoe Unit on the Gold Coast leading up to the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and other elite athletes at the Queensland Academy of Sport.

4. He has been involved in the martial arts for many years culminating in living in Japan for three years in his 20s. He has high degree black belts in four martial arts (judo, karate, jodo and aikido). He has competed at a state, national and international level in judo. He has always been interested in mind-body disciplines.

5. A PADI qualified Rescue Diver and a Royal Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion ensure the maintenance of high standards of safety while freediving. He has current industry standards in HLTAID001 (Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); HLTAID002 (Provide Basic Emergency Life Support); HLTAID003 (Provide First Aid); SISCAQU202A (Perform Water Rescues); HLTFA302C (Provide First Aid in Remote Situation); and VU20298 (Apply Oxygen Resusciation).

5. He has a Certificate II in Maritime Operations (Coxswains Grade 1 Near Coastal) from NSW TAFE and has a Coxswains Grade 1 Certificate enabling him to be a skipper of a commercial boat up to 12 metres in length (whcih is very handy for freediving). He is also a an RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Day Skipper.
